Artist's Comments

Ooooookay... where to begin... This is a very personal project that's been floating in my head for a long time now. Most of you won't even know what it's about, but I had to do it. I'll give a little background to situate people who don't know the series.

In the 80s, there was a series called "Les mystérieuses cités d'or" (Mysterious Cities of Gold in the USA). The series was, to this day, one of the best piece of animation ever made. It was one of the only youth-oriented cartoon I've seen that treated kids as intelligent beings. The writing was incredible and fed the imagination of viewers for years to come. Unfortunately, the series was short and left us wanting more. A sequel has been rumored for twenty years now, but nothing has ever come out of it.

This has led fans like me to make their own little stories in their heads. I wanted to do something to express my own part of this, so I tried to imagine the main characters ten years older, how they would change and how their ongoing quest would change them. The likeness isn't quite right, but the drawing reflects what I imagine as the characters' future.

Ouais, je me disais, en découvrant le monde des européens, probablement que son coté "savant" ressortirait encore plus.

I am unfamiliar with this series, but the image is obviously the result of a lot of love; you did a brilliant job on it... it is breathtaking! The clothing and their expressions are particularly worthy of note! I personally find it a thrill when a book, TV, or movie series inspires the fans and lives on in their hearts years after it ends.
